Karl Straub

"Nature is our source, home, and mother.

Karl is originally from the United States. He studied at Duke University and is a former competitive swimmer, IT consultant, researcher in dolphin communication, and a certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher. Karl’s path reads like a fantastic novel: in 2004, he left behind his IT job and permanent residence in the metropolis of New York and set off on a world journey with little more than a light backpack. This odyssey was to last a full eight years.

During his travels, he studied with inspiring yoga and meditation teachers and eventually began teaching himself. His yoga classes are deeply shaped by the influence of his teachers, his love of nature, and a unique inspiration drawn from experiences in more than 12 countries and over 40 cities. Since 2012, Karl has been living in Zurich.

"It is an honour to be part of the Mountain Yoga Festival family! I love it, and I am looking forward to coming back! Yes, I can tell you from my experience at lots of other festivals, this one is world-class. The festival team succeeds in every detail. It’s big enough for international buzz and excitement, but small enough for a feeling of community and warmth. You don’t feel lost in a rushing crowd. The only rushing you will find is in the sound of the mountain streams, and wind in the trees.

The nature there is so powerful, present, and therapeutic. The people of St. Anton are wonderful, and make us all feel welcome at their excellent restaurants, hotels, trails, and lifts. This is a not just another festival, it’s a alpine yoga experience you don’t want to miss!"
