As a pro athlete, I was looking for something to complete this last one percent. The one percent which will make the difference between Olympic Gold and Silver. I had no idea, that yoga would influence and transform my life in so many positive ways.

Over the last 15 years as a pro athlete, I consistently pushed my mind and body in training and in competition mentally and physically. Yoga was my counterpart. It introduced me to the feeling of slowing down into a healing practice. A healing practice for the body. For the mind. And for the soul. Before Vancouver Olympics, I went through numerous injuries. Three knee surgeries, ankle surgery, torn ligaments, dislocated elbow and shoulder.

Yoga helped me deal with the physical pain, to stretch the body and to transcend the physical pain I was feeling from my injuries. Although it was rough time, I would not change a thing because every injury was a journey to my inner self. Every injury made me stronger mentally, paving a path for me to become the athlete to win the Olympic Gold.

I have had many challenges in my life. I learned to feel the bliss when being out of my comfort zone. Early in my life, I experienced grief from the loss of my closest friends. All the feelings of surviving the catastrophe, shaped me in many ways.I learned to live life to the fullest everyday, fearlessly. Transforming emotions like grief, frustration, anger, fear into strength, happiness, love is what healing is all about. What YOGA is all about.

Balancing on the edge of your physical limit in a controlled way is where transformation starts. Feel the powerful combination of mental training techniques and yoga flows. Step out of your comfort zone to step back into your zone in a more resourceful way.

I am inspired and feel a deep appreciation for yoga’s philosophies. Yoga helped me to center myself, to get aware of my needs, and to be clear about my feelings.Let your body be your guide to heal yourself. We are creating our reality. With every breath we take. With every thought we think. Yoga is about discovering yourself on deeper levels and to hear your inner voice. When you hear these inner voices, it is much easier to make intuitive choices. Be aware of your beliefs, your habits, your needs. Listen to yourself and have the courage to stand up for yourself, for your values, for your dreams and visions. Let your heart guide you with strength. It’s healing on a deeper emotional level. Reconnect to yourself, without all the distractions. It’s about being present and just being you.

Yoga and the feeling of flow is universal. I love connecting with nature through sports on my snowboard, kite or surfboard. It’s always magical. I just need my heart rate up at 190 sometimes. I am not the type of yoga teacher preaching you that you have to be on your yoga mat practicing asanas every day. Why? Because I love the state of yoga off the mat. Do more of the things that makes you smile because JOY is a healer itself. Find your personal mix.  It’s all about YOU. Your balance. You connecting to yourself, in your way.

A spiritual practice is one that brings us full circle. Feel that separation is just an illusion.
